Here's just a small sample of some restaurants we might consider for upcoming Ethnic Nights Out. Don't consider this list as a limitation...consider it a start!
Thai Tanee 5635 Alpha Road Dallas, TX 75240 Phone: 972-960-1313 Comments: Thai. Excellent little place, opened around the end of 2006/beginning of 2007. Good selection, high quality, low prices, good value. No liquor license, but they cater to those who bring their own wine. Here is a review by Dallas Morning News.
The Old Monk 2847 Henderson Dallas, TX 75206 Phone: 214-821-1880 Comments: Not strictly an ethnic place, but they do serve some extraordinary Belgian mussels that are absolutely out of this world. Plus, they have a great variety of beers and ales, good fish & chips, and an atmosphere that makes you feel you’re in a real pub. Here’s a review from the Dallas Observer.
Pasand Indian Cuisine 1377 W. Campbell Rd. Richardson, TX 75080 Phone: 972-644-4447 Comments: Indian, obviously. This is a primarily vegetarian Indian restaurant very near by, in the center on the southeast corner of Campbell and Coit. They serve both northern Indian (milder, creamier) and southern Indian (hotter, spicier) styles of food. It’s a great place to get a taste of a multitude of Indian foods. Here’s a Dallas Observer review
Queen of Sheba 14875 Inwood Rd. Addison, TX 75001 Phone: 972-980-9450 Comments: Ethiopian When this place opened last year, it was a delight to see, because its previous location, which was wonderful, had closed and it simply disappeared. But it’s back and it’s very good. It’s pricier and fancier than Lalibela on Forest, but it’s also closer and more convenient and might appeal to someone who’s adventurous enough to try Ethiopian, but not quite ready to try it in Ethiopia.
Lalibela 9191 Forest Lane Dallas, TX 75243 Phone: 972-792-8442 Comments: Ethiopian. This place is in a dank little strip center on the north side of Forest Lane just east of Greenville Ave. Some folks might be put off by the place, as it might look “too foreign” to them, but it has excellent food and the waitstaff are very nice. Very inexpensive.
Pho Que Huong 2713 15th Plano, TX 75075 Phone: 972-519-9198 Comments: Vietnamese. A great place to get a bowl of pho or a bowl of bun (very fine vermicelli noodles, mixed with your option of many different types of vegetables, sauces, etc.). This is a particularly good place for someone who’s never had Vietnamese food to give it a try, but it’s good for the rest of us, too. Food here is downright cheap.
La Calle Doce (Oak Cliff location) 415 W. 12th Street Dallas, TX 75208 Phone: 214-941-4304 Comments: Mexican seafood. The location is just as important as the food...well, almost. It’s in an old house, with tables scattered all about in various rooms, all very well maintained and attractive. The menu is extraordinary, with an amazing variety of fish and shellfish prepared in every way imaginable. The ceviche is wonderful…I’ve never had a bad meal there. The prices are very reasonable. Here's a link to their website.
Noodle Wave Fresh Thai Cooking 1490 W. Spring Valley Road Richardson, TX 75080 Phone: 972-690-3637 Comments: Thai, obviously. This place was once Thai Lanna, but now it's a place we really like. Everything we've had has been fresh, tongue-tinglingly good, and just the 'heat level' we like (they offer heat on a 4-level scale). Our last visit was on a Friday evening...it was jammed with people, several of whom brought their bottles of wine to serve, as the place apparently has no liquor license (which makes your wine much cheaper than buying it from the restaurant). Great place to meet for good conversation.
